Every person dreams, but some of these people dream to form a better life for themselves and help distract feelings of loneliness. People do not want to believe that their dreams cannot or will not come true although typically these dreams are unrealistic and unreachable. This shows that dreams help distract the person from the reality they are facing. In contrast, the person may be let down when they realize they cannot accomplish their dreams. Following this idea further, characters such as George and Curley’s wife from John Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men, demonstrate the ideas of dreaming to help alleviate loneliness for a better life and how dreams don’t always turn out the way the person plans them. Although dreams help distract from the reality of loneliness, they can become too far from reach and not accomplishable.
