There are quite a few issues that are undeniably problematic in American society today: the insanely high Nationwide Debt, rising Crime and Incarceration rate, the obvious lack of employment and health care, and last but not least the global warming predicament. These issues affect each and every individual of the U.S., and though there is no sole matter behind them, there is one problem that contributes to these concerns and many others. This problem is America's War on Drugs. Yes, in actuality, proposing a solution to such a vast concept sounds utterly ludicrous. However, something needs to be done. The drug war has “increased our murder rate, swelled our prison population, made our streets more violent, heightened corruption among law enforcement, undermined civil liberties, and utterly failed to prevent even the most destitute person desirous of drugs from getting high.”(2). The first steps in addressing the situation would in some way involve giving up the war(which will be an astounding feat to triumph because 'giving up' isn't really the American way), after all the American Government is long overdue for a redrawing of some of its legal lines, including the legalization of some, if not all drugs.
