I am writing this paragraph for future COM/155 students or inexperienced academic writers to give them information about the writing process. There are five steps in the writing process which include pre-writing, outlining the structure of ideas, writing a rough draft, revising and editing. All of these steps are very important in the writing process especially in an academic setting. The first step, pre-writing is simply brain storming, it is a process that will help to think about a topic, determine a purpose, pin point your audience and prepare to write. Prewriting is the stage of the writing process during which you transfer your abstract thoughts into more concrete ideas on paper deciding on a topic:. As I stated before, pre-writing includes brainstorming, free-writing just your thoughts putting them down on paper.
