Is Addiction a disease or choice?

I believe that addiction is a choice. Many people have addictive personalities and when they choose to do something whether it is drugs or alcohol, their addictive personalities thrive on the feeling that it gives them and in turn they become addicted.

People are capable of making their own decisions. Drugs can be good or bad for you and it all depends on how you use them. A person begins using drugs in order to deal with situations and emotions that they do not know how to handle. Once the body is addicted and the mind feels like it needs the drug, then the person is addicted.

To remain using a drug is making the choice to stay an addict. If someone seeks help to stop using then they have made the choice to stop being an addict. A person can use for a first time looking for a good time, then things got out of control, until it turns into a need and is no longer a choice and you are addicted. Now there is only one choice left to save yourself from the disease.
