People say interesting things in many ways. However, in order to persuade individuals to see our points of view, we use the art of rhetoric. Three perfect examples of stories that use rhetorical devices are, “A Vindication to the Rights of Woman”, “To the Ladies”, and “The Education of Women”. All the authors of these stories used these rhetorical devices to get their point across and win the reader over.
    In “A Vindication of the Rights of Woman”, Mary Wollstonecraft uses many rhetorical devices, the first one being rhetorical questions. A perfect example of this is when she says,”I am aware of an obvious inference: from every quarter have I heard exclamations against masculine women; but where are they to be found?” pg 640, Wollstonecraft. This is prime example of this because she wanted people to see that masculine women are hardly ever found, and so she said a statement and used a question to prove that she was right. Next she uses repetition or restatement. On most of page 639 she talks using a lot of different words for the same emotions like, “melancholy, solicitude, sorrowful, depressed, partial, neglected…” This was to get the reader to really see her view and concern on the matter of the way women were treated. Lastly, Mary uses the device, appeal to authority. On pages 638-639 she comments on how she read many books by people who talked about the way women were supposed to be in society or how they were raised and then gave her opinion on the matter just to furthe...
