Throughout history man has always acquired the drive to exert power upon an inferior opponent. In this case, the search for ivory in Africa has man straying away from morals and ultimately falling into the trap of corruption. The colonization of Africa led the way for black slavery, an imperialistic idea; his idea is used in Heart of Darkness as a way for man to gain riches through the ivory trade, which Joseph Conrad speaks out against.
