GANGS

    Even though the Crips started out to be a positive movement, their environment and situations had an outstanding impact on the negative out come of the gang. Money and power was a major reason why rhe gang split off in so many different groups, now there are hundreds of gangs. I believe the lack of leadership in the home is a main reason that push kids towards the gang life. Crack cocaine was a major source of income for gangs. Gang violence don’t just effect other gang members. Why is the higher percentage of young gang members African American?
    Black gangs first appeared in downtown LA in the 20's, this was consistent with the large black population in that area.The formation of street gangs increased at an alarming pace throughout the 1980s and 1990s.The Crip gang originated in Los Angeles in the mid-to late 1960’s.The gang was founded by 15 year old Raymond Washington along with Stanely “Tookie” Williams. Other street gangs formed after the crips were establish.    
The Crips are one of the oldest, largest and most notorious gangs in the United States.
