    . Macbeth was born to nobility and had a career as part of Duncan’s army as the thane of Glamis then promoted to thane of Cawdor. In Act 1, Scene 2, the play begins in a battlefield amidst a civil war between the Scottish people. The kinsmen were discussing how Macbeth killed Macdonwald, and Duncan announcing Macbeth as the new thane of Cawdor. Macbeth’s murderous career was in fact an inevitable episode in a world dominated by the witches and insuppressible ambition. When Macbeth meets the Weird Sister they greet him with “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Glamis…thane of Cawdor…that shall be king hereafter”(1.3.51-53). The dramatic irony was that Macbeth did not know he had been given the title of thane of Cawdor, so when told that he is the new thane of Cawdor, Macbeth begins to believe the witches power to foresee the future.
