During the eleventh century people lived harsh lives in horrible conditions in the Kingdom of Castile. The peasants ask for more land and less taxes due to the agricultural problems, it was very difficult to live in this time period. People were suffering because private property was useless, animals grazed on the land which made it even harder to grow crops. Therefore the peasants had no way to eat or a way to make money. The livestock was the fastest, easiest, income of the Kingdom; there was a high demand for the livestock. The King did not care that the peasants werenft making any money or that they were starving. The housing was very dirty and had rats coming and going, it was almost natural to be sitting next to a rat. Women were lucky if they could give birth, and if the women had children those children would be lucky if they could survive these types of living conditions. Before the attack of the Moors in 1026, the village was descent and the peasant families had enough food to survive.
